Draupadi Murmu is an Indian politician and the member of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party). A devotee of Shiva, Draupadi previously was the Governor of Jharkhand (2015 to 2021). Recently she got popularity and nation wide support as she was nominated for the the post of President of India, the first so belonging to a scheduled tribe.
Murmu was born on 20th June 1958 in in a Santali tribal family in Odisha. She served different position before being nominated for the post of president, such as councilor of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat in 1997, Minister of State for Commerce and Transport, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister etc.
The former Odisha Minister and an MLA from Rairangpur Assembly constituency, Murmu won the Nilkantha Award for best MLA by Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2007.
